This new and innovative therapy is evidence-based and designed to reduce sound sensitivities, improve auditory processing, behavioural state regulation, and social engagement behaviours. It provides us with another portal into the nervous system to build a foundation for awareness, embodiment, and resilience.
The SSP is a non-invasive, non-medical therapy. By listening to specifically filtered music or sounds, it delivers the frequencies of a melodic human voice. Based on the Polyvagal Theory, the SSP is meant to shift the autonomic nervous system out of a chronic state of defense and into a state of social engagement through acoustic vagal nerve stimulation. Some commonly reported positive responses to the SSP therapy are:
Easier and more spontaneous social connection
Better emotional control
Improved access to executive functions and higher cognitive abilities
You may also see improvements to your overall health such as:
A greater focus and attention span
Improved learning
Enhanced language skills (expressive and receptive)
Enhanced sleep
A reduction in pain levels
Lower anxiety
Better regulation of physiological state
Better results in other therapies you are provided
Throughout my career I can say with confidence that I feel more hopeful than ever with a combined influence of psychotherapy, somatic involvement, and the healing influence of the Safe and Sound Protocol © that healing is within reach!
A sample of testimonials from my clients:
"SSP has helped me to accept things for what they are. I was a constant people pleaser, while ignoring all of my personal needs. I can now look at situations from an outside perspective, see it for what it is, and be at peace knowing what is and isn't for me in life."
-26 Year Old Female, Developmental and Relational Trauma Survivor
"After doing the Safe and Sound Protocol I noticed a clear and consistent improvement in interpersonal connectivity and engagement. I was able to share my thoughts and feelings more openly and with greater clarity. The improvements came naturally and felt like a constricting weight was being lightened”.
-68 Year Old Male, Developmental Trauma Survivor, Chronic Pain Sufferer
"I started the SSP in the spring [2024], and right away noticed a calmer approach to life. A couple of months later I decided to do the protocol again, and my self assessments are also showing a decline in anxiety. It’s easy to make the time to listen because it’s a good thing for me!"
-39 Year Old Female, Generalized Anxiety
"Wow. I am amazed. I do feel more relaxed and less on-alert all the time. I am also sleeping better. I still wake up but am able to fall asleep again. I'm also tired when I go to bed, which is new."
-58 Year Old Female, Developmental Trauma Survivor, Chronic Pain Sufferer
"I have definitely noticed my mood being more stable overall. I am more likely to approach others to do things with them (a short walk for example). I definitely feel that the SSP along with the better sleep hygiene tools I have been implementing have improved my mood!"
-23 Year Old Female, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
“Subtle changes have been exactly what I have experienced - sleeping is slightly better, digestive system is calmer and more predictable, Less worry, slightly easier to focus, longer mental bandwidth, increased responsiveness vs. reacting, talking more (re: sharing my state of mind), feeling more mentally well, outlook on the world slightly improved (less judgement of others, praying for others), more faith that things will be ok”.
